Widows & Orphans Program
Thank you so much for the check you sent me. My son is attending yeshiva and is in second grade. My daughter is in Pre-1A. My children's monthly tuition is $500 each. Thank you again for making our burden lighter.
Devorah R, Yerushalayim

Yasher koach for your check. I used it to buy my children new clothing so they shouldn't be embarrassed to go out on Shabbos. (Their old things were quite shabby.) There was enough for a new robe for me.

Stories of Greatness

Rabbi Zalman Ashkenazi, zatzal, founder of Mesamche Lev, had a special place in his heart for widows.

When Reb Zalman's brother in law passed away leaving a young widow with many orphans, he assumed responsibility for the family. Before Pesach, he left his own family and went to Israel to lead the Seder for the family. Although he had many stringencies regarding what foods he ate on Pesach, he was matir neder, absolving himself of the stringencies he held very dear, so that he could care for the widow and orphans.

-----------------------------------------------------

One Purim, he met a person collecting for a widow in Eretz Yisroel. He asked the person for the name and address of the widow, and immediately sent her a check.

-----------------------------------------------------

Rabbi Chaim Kreiswerth, zatzal, chief rabbi of Antwerp, cared deeply for widows and orphans. He was once speaking to a donor when Rabbi Ashkenazi, zatal, entered. The donor introduced Reb Zalman as the foremost helper of almonos and yesomim in the world. Rabbi Kreiswerth proceeded to cross-examine Reb Zalman, and was amazed to find that Reb Zalman did, indeed, know the name and circumstances of virtually every Jewish widow in the world.

-----------------------------------------------------

During a long, tiring car ride, Reb Zalman refused to turn off his cell phone and rest - because a widow might try to reach him.

-----------------------------------------------------

Reb Zalman once heard about a widow in Rishon Letzion who was struggling mightily. Aghast, he called the Israeli Mesamche Lev office, and asked how it was possible that he hadn't been aware of the situation. They assured him that he had, indeed, known about the family - but that the widow also went by a different name. Reb Zalman had been assisting her for years!
Hundreds of widows struggle and wonder how they'll make it through the day.
Mesamche Lev eases their burden by providing financial support, including holiday assistance, stipends, and funds for special needs. We serve over 1000 widows and close to 4000 orphans; and provided $1.4 million just in holiday support in the past year.
IT'S A PROMISE
Hashem is the the Almighty Father of Orphans and Defender of Widows. He commands us to care for widows and orphans, and makes this remarkable promise:

If you bring joy to mine, I will bring joy to [all that is] yours. Sponsor a widow or orphan today, and merit the Almighty's blessing in your life.

A segulah for health, prosperity, nachas, children, shidduchim, and more!

Mesamche Lev now serving US widows
In response to growing demand, Mesamche Lev has expanded its operations and is now serving some one hundred sixty widows in the United States. The widows receive large holiday stipends before Rosh Hashanah and Pesach, so that they can purchase new clothing, household goods, and the extras that make holidays special.

If you live in the United States, your contribution to Mesamche Lev supports aniyei ircha - the poor of your community; and brings joy to someone very close to home.
